FREMONT, CA: According to a survey by the Information Services Group (ISG), European manufacturing enterprises are embracing cloud-based technologies and services to speed their go-to-market plans and boost their digital marketing efforts. Manufacturers on the continent are also looking to the cloud to enable direct-to-consumer business models, according to the report. Christian Decker, ISG Smart Manufacturing's EMEA partner stated that manufacturers in Europe are turning to the cloud to improve their business agility. They are also turning to manufacturing services providers to assist them establish new reference architectures and improve their operations' resiliency.
Report estimates that the industrial companies also want service providers to assist them in establishing powerful configuration management databases and utilizing automated testing, including shift-left methodologies. The manufacturing industry in Europe is also aiming to remodel its supply chain infrastructure by employing predictive models, according to the research. Following shortages caused by the COVID-19 outbreak, manufacturers are striving for more openness in their supply chains. Companies are employing AI for client or consumer forecasts in some circumstances.

Meanwhile, the European automotive industry, which uses older chip designs, faces a chip shortage across all industries, according to the report. There are enough fabrication facilities (fabs) for 3 and 5nm nodes, which are suitable for servers, mobile and laptop processors, but there is a shortage of 28, 40, and 65nm nodes, which are used by automakers. The majority of new fab investments are going into new nodes, and demand from the medical, industrial, and automotive verticals is growing all the time.
Chip shortages may affect the automotive industry until 2023, when it is expected to begin using more high-performance parts. According to the research, another trend among European automakers is a focus on producing more electric vehicles. Automobile manufacturers are attempting to expand their electric vehicle infrastructure, which has now surpassed autonomous driving technology in importance. Many European automakers have stated plans to phase out gas-powered vehicles, but they face several obstacles before achieving their goals.
